Santa Fe Workshop!

Summer session in the Land of Enchantment!

Join us for an afternoon of exploring water marbling- an ancient mono-printing process with textile artist Mercedez Rex. She will cover a brief history of marbling and demonstrate basic techniques of manipulating pigments on the surface of a water bath. Each participant will have their own marbling vat and time to practice learned techniques and color combinations before transferring their designs to both paper and silk textiles. Students will leave with prints on paper and silk.

Mercedez Rex is an artist and creativity advocate. She believes that everyone is creative and that cultivating creativity is a worthwhile pursuit that leads to emotional resilience and a deeper sense of purpose. Her goal in teaching workshops is to encourage others to tap into their own creativity. She does this first and foremost, by offering guidance and instruction on a craft she is passionate about but more importantly by fostering an environment that values playful experimentation and process over comparison, perfectionism, and fear of failure.

I had the pleasure of doing a marbling workshop with Mercedez in Santa Fe, NM as she was traveling through and it was such a fun experience! She is an easy going and light hearted person, so everyone in the room instantly felt relaxed and able to experiment creatively. There was ample time to explore and test out marbling techniques before we made our final prints so I ended up with some cool pieces that I used for gift wrapping as well as a beautiful silk neck scarf. I look forward to taking more workshops with her when I can.
