Santa Fe Workshop!

I'm bringing my intro to marbling class to the Land of Enchantment!

Join us for an afternoon of exploring water marbling- an ancient mono-printing process with textile artist Mercedez Rex. She will cover a brief history of marbling and demonstrate basic techniques of manipulating pigments on the surface of a water bath. Each participant will have their own marbling vat and time to practice learned techniques and color combinations before transferring their designs to both paper and silk textiles. Students will leave with prints on paper and silk.

Mercedez Rex is an artist and creativity advocate. She believes that everyone is creative and that cultivating creativity is a worthwhile pursuit that leads to emotional resilience and a deeper sense of purpose. Her goal in teaching workshops is to encourage others to tap into their own creativity. She does this first and foremost, by offering guidance and instruction on a craft she is passionate about but more importantly by fostering an environment that values playful experimentation and process over comparison, perfectionism, and fear of failure.

Large Format Marbling

Back by demand: LARGE FORMAT PAPER MARBLING!! I typically offer this class over the holidays as a handmade gift wrap workshop but printing large is so enjoyable I figured why limit the fun... Each participant will have their OWN large marbling tray and time to practice learned techniques and color combinations printing their designs on 18 x 24 sheets of paper and a silk twill neckerchief.

These papers are fantastic as gift wrap, bookbinding/ book arts, collage and many other craft applications- I'm planning to use mine as a hand made lamp shade! Students will work at their own pace and leave with between 5-10 sheets of hand marbled paper depending on speed and detail of design.

Marbling 2.0 : New Combs, New Patterns!

The long awaited Marbling 2.0 class returns! I'll be sharing some of the patterns, tips and techniques I learned during my studies with The Chena River Marblers.

Unlike my Intro to Marbling class, which is about creative exploration and play, the focus in this class will be on learning new skills and replicating specific patterns. I will demonstrate a range of new techniques that incorporate a variety of combs , which when used in a particular order produce wonderful contemporary classic patterns. Students will work in their own tray and practice recreating the pattern following each new pattern demonstration. Students will leave with 8-10 archival prints.

This class is fast paced, previous marbling experience is recommended.

I had the pleasure of doing a marbling workshop with Mercedez in Santa Fe, NM as she was traveling through and it was such a fun experience! She is an easy going and light hearted person, so everyone in the room instantly felt relaxed and able to experiment creatively. There was ample time to explore and test out marbling techniques before we made our final prints so I ended up with some cool pieces that I used for gift wrapping as well as a beautiful silk neck scarf. I look forward to taking more workshops with her when I can.
